BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD
Origin
Mirai was born into the Mahou life, naturally blessed with a talent for magical abilities. A Mahou's duty is to protect innocent lives from the dangerous beings that scientists in her world had coined as "Cadavers." These creatures seemed to come from nowhere and had no signs of stopping anytime soon.As a child, she grew up in a loving household. Her parents often praised her for being so talented. She enjoyed hearing how well she was doing. Because she had positive support, it allowed her to go the distance. From helping those in need and even just being as helpful as she could be at home, she always gave it her all.
Melandrach began to show signs of eradication years before its ultimate end. When the onslaught of strife started, Mirai was only 9. Her parents did their best to provide for the family and take care of Mirai as much as possible, but in time food became scarce. Once life started to get harder to get by, she noticed how hard her parents worked to keep her fed and safe from any dangers. No matter how hard they tried, it was only a certain amount of time before she realized how much they were struggling, often putting Mirai over themselves.
She wanted to do anything she could to help lighten that burden for them. When crops were failing, she did her best to use her abilities to help grow harvest for the sake of getting more eatable food out there and bring what she could home for her own family. She pushed herself at times. The demand for her help became more commonplace. There were plenty of adults who told her that she needed to stop and rest, but she refused to be a burden to anyone. Whether it be with her family or in general. It was the beginning of where she started to push herself more than she should to help out any way she could.
Eventually, her parents were killed in a struggle to protect her from the inevitable Cadavar attack. By some luck, her uncle had been coming to check on them and found her in time. It took her quite a bit of time to recover. Though, she'd never fully recover from the loss of her parents. Though she was still young, she had seen what was going on around her. Over the years, she began to understand the situation better.
After the death of her parents, she went between custody of various relatives; Each one saw the same fate. Some of her family was supportive of her; some thought of her as a cursed child. The family around her seemed to die off eventually. It didn't take too long for her to take that to heart. Maybe it was her? Perhaps she wasn't doing enough? It didn't matter how hard she tried to help save the people that she loved, they all eventually met the same end. It didn't take too long for Mirai to be all alone in a dying world. All of her family were either killed by hunger or injuries.
A lot of people were dying around that time. Death became normalized and she started to long for answers to help save them all. It was easy to lose hope after seeing so many tragedies, but feeling sad did her no good. It didn't bring those who passed back to life and it sure as hell didn't comfort those who were trying to cling on to any shred of hope left. She began to cling onto whoever was still alive and dear to her, afraid to lose them too. And so the more she pushed herself to save others in need.
Times were tough -- but ever the optimist -- she did her best to stay cheerful and optimistic that things would get better. She denied the outcome of Melandrach and the people around her for as long as possible; Ignorance is bliss, as they say. The harder she tried to help out, the more friends died.
Soon enough, she hardly cared for herself as she should. Any discomfort she had, she could just endure it. What was most important to her was to protect those around her over whatever whims that she had. Once life started to be scarce, she felt more and more alone by the day. She wanted nothing more than to converse with another human, even if it was with those who had nothing good to say. She became desperate for a solution and started to work herself tirelessly to find a way to save the few who were still alive and her world.
Though most Mahou did their best to use their powers for good, some were much more selfish with their desires. It was something that Mirai had seen plenty of during all those years after strife had broken out. It didn't take long for the people around her to destroy themselves in the process of their constant fighting.
With Melandrach on its dying legs, Mirai was at her wit's end despite trying her best to fight on. One of the portals caused by Denestvian technology showed up in her world, causing her to fall into it. Leaving her trapped in a whole new place with no way back home, she found herself at a loss about what to do next. Mirai still wants to desperately believe that her world is still alive and find a way back to save it. All signs point to its ultimate demise. The likelihood of it still being around is dismal at best.
She remained in denial that Melandrach was gone. She was determined to try to find a way back home one way or another. It was then that she met Reverie and found out about the fate of Denestvia. She couldn't stand the thought of a repeat of what happened to her world, even if things are not nearly as dismal as they were back home. She swore to do her best to aid him in saving Denestvia while trying to find a way back home.
Little does she know the dangers that await and the struggles she'd have with her own life while trying to make everyone else happy; Even if that happiness came at a cost.
IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP
DEERINGTON
Mirai arrived in Deerington at one of the worst times. According to people who have been here much longer, Octobers in Deerington are notoriously bad. It was raining blood outside, and corpses continued to fall. Overall, it was dangerous to be outdoors. Sleepers found it difficult -- if not impossible -- to get some sleep throughout October. There were few safe havens, but the library was well guarded and warded, so many people found shelter there.Mirai had spent most of her time in the library, only venturing out on occasional patrols to make sure the others were safe. Seeing so many people alive and mostly well was certainly a shock for her. She had been alone for a few years at least, so seeing living people was a relief. Coming from a barren land (both land and population), she had grown accustomed to dealing with everything alone. It was certainly an adjustment for her. She never thought she'd see so many people alive, so it was a comforting feeling that despite this circumstance, so many people were still alive and well.
Mirai had not yet been in Deerington for long enough to know how things worked here. What she did know is that she had overextended herself while still in Melandrach. Fighting for the future of your home or not, she was most definitely pushed into Overdrive and feeling it. She was achy and tired. Considering that no Sleepers could do their namesake, it would be prudent to observe caution. She had no way of knowing how long it would last, so she did her best to avoid using her magic. On occasion, she would do a small trick or heal someone up, but it was crucial to let herself recover.
A popular way to pass the time amongst the Sleepers was telling each other stories. Many people talked about their homes. Mirai was content with simply listening quietly. She focused on others, opting out of speaking much about herself. She was not against talking about herself but felt talking about her home would only sour the peaceful mood.
Aside from the patrols every so often, she tried to stay put after witnessing firsthand how dangerous the city was. She kept hearing voices call out to her. Once she went to check it out eventually, she thought that her parents were crying out for help. Deep down, she knew that there was no way they were here. They had died many years ago, but there was a yearning that made her frantic to try to save them.
It was her first experience with being manipulated by Deerington. It was a painful reminder about how easy it was to control and feed fear into the hearts of Sleepers. Life back home was miserable and lonely, but learning this early on in her time in Deerington made her realize that life here wouldn't be much easier. It was going to be very trying, but she had plenty of experience with that. With the help of Louis and Glitch, they managed to talk some sense into her. They stopped her from charging into possible death.
After finding out that there were other magical girls here, she found herself very interested in learning about the multitude of abilities and powers of the Sleepers here. Mahou or not, it didn't matter to her. She befriended a few different magical girls, but Usagi and Madoka were the closest to her. She wasn't aware of what had happened to Usagi during the event in October until Usagi apologized for her behavior in November. She had been manipulated by the world, going as far as killing a few people before being killed herself. That simple fact never left her mind as she resided in Deerington.
Sinkholes started to show up around town; each one was a little bit different from the next. They each had their unique dangers as well as wonders. Being newly discovered, many Sleepers took the time to explore them. Mirai visited most of them but spent most of her time in the Trench sinkhole. After being drawn to eat an odd plant, she grew a mermaid tail. It was a painful transformation for a moment, but the wonder of being able to swim around freely and explore underwater was enough to distract her.
The event faded, but the sinkholes remained as a permanent locale. Soon enough, winter came, and more strange things happened. Opening her bedroom door, she ended up in a house that showed signs of disarray. Eventually, she began to forget why she had come here. She came to believe it was her home and she had been expecting guests. That was when she met Mako. The house changed to leaving marks of their past, giving hints about their life without thinking anything strange about it. The more they questioned that something felt wrong, the more they took back control of their memories.
Deerington had the talent to force Mirai to face her fears and insecurities. All of the things that she buried deep down had resurfaced many times during her stay here. Mako had become one of the few people who knew about her insecurities. Their meeting in the house was just the start. A nasty blizzard forced Sleepers to take shelter in the Grady Hotel. Luz and Mako had witnessed memories of Mirai's painful past, enabling her to be more honest towards them.
Mirai found it hard to get a restful night of sleep in January 2021. It didn't seem to matter how many hours of sleep she got. She occasionally woke up feeling as if she hadn't slept at all. Knowing Deerington's pattern of messing with them, she didn't think anything strange from it; A prelude to what would come over time. She didn't want to worry her friends, so she chose to keep that information to herself.
The Grady Hotel was a pretty comfortable place, aside from the average Deerington shenanigans. Each Sleeper had a room that catered to their needs. During their stay, Sleepers could attend a formal party, listed in a pamphlet in each room. Thankfully, the rooms provided each Sleeper with a wardrobe furnished with plenty of avant-garde outfits to wear, paired up with some pretty loud makeup as an automatic addition.
Mirai had never had the chance to attend any social functions before and certainly not something this formal. After finding out about school dances from Taiyang during a shopping trip for new clothing, she was immediately interested in checking these parties out. She had enjoyed her time and even met a bunch of new people along the way.
One thing was for sure about Deerington. Good things don't just happen without something going wrong in the end. The warm, inviting party turned into a nightmare. The beautifully decorated ballroom took a drastic change. It looked abandoned for a long time and devoid of life. It had been in ruins, and suddenly she had found herself all alone. After venturing into town barefoot, once she found other Sleepers finally, the city began to fill with life as if nothing had happened.
Finally able to return home, Mirai grew more worried when she didn't see Madoka anywhere. Admittedly, she hadn't managed to find her at the hotel during January but had just assumed she was busy. She searched tirelessly for her housemate to no avail, even going as far as checking every sinkhole just in case.
Once she realized that she had been unable to find Madoka anywhere, Mirai started to wonder if her relatives that had claimed that she was cursed had been right about her. Maybe they had a point? Everyone who'd ever gotten close to her had either died or disappeared. It solidified her fears that she was bound to make the people she cared about to suffer.
As if February wasn't hard enough, Mirai found herself in a loop. After spending a few days cooped up in her home, she kept reliving the same day, only to die every time. Mako and Mirai did their best to break this vicious cycle. It took multiple tries but eventually managed to break free. With Madoka disappearing not too long ago, Usagi going missing made her extremely anxious. She tried her best to find her along with the others already searching but found no success.
Near the end of the month, Mirai had experienced her first death here. Much like Usagi during October, Jack had been under Deerington's influence. He thought that he was Lucifer and searching for a way out. Nothing could prepare Mirai for what was about to happen. At first, Mirai didn't suspect that anything was wrong when he asked her to accompany him on a walk. When Jack asked her if she knew anybody had managed to escape, she started to feel that something was off. Things escalated when she didn't have the answers he was looking for, prompting him to kill her.
It had all happened so fast. Coming back a little while later, Mirai experienced what the Death Flu was like firsthand. It was very reminiscent of Overdrive, so she managed to get by while keeping how she was feeling to herself. She felt a little uneasy around Jack, unsure if he was okay now or not. Manipulated or not, it made it difficult to approach him. While recovering from the Death Flu, she realized that Dean had also been killed by him, sharing what they had each experienced.
Pushing her pain and discomfort aside, she opted to focus on a much more crucial engagement; An invitation to the Mayor's home. For as long as anybody could tell, not once had his home been open for visitors. This invitation was an opportunity to get some answers. As one would expect, the invitation for tea did not go as planned. Right before Mirai passed out, she heard bits and pieces of what he was saying. It was hard to understand, but she picked out words like "forget," "lab," and "onpleasant."
Coming to her senses, she found herself in a cell. She had no access to her abilities or what she had on her persons at the time. Released from her cell, orderlies escorted her to what resembled a mental hospital. Orderlies were persistent that the Sleepers there needed to take their pills; It would calm them down. Every time she mentioned her powers or even Deerington, the orderlies insisted that you weren't well. None of those things were real. She had been merely suffering from hallucinations.
Every time she asked what happened, the story would change. No matter what the reason was, nothing indicated the life she had back in Deerington. After enough time, it became more difficult to think clearly. It was a lot easier to give in and accept that maybe she was going crazy. It took some time and effort to keep sane. With the help of the other Sleepers who felt something was wrong, she managed to escape through the vents. While venturing the vents, she saw into a series of rooms with the figureheads of Deerington. Each room had a lock of hair and a story of its own.
With everything going on, Mirai was able to enjoy a much-needed break. During her time at the hotel, she met Woody while trying to find her ever-changing room location. They didn't have much luck finding it but shared a pleasant conversation with him. Once he realized that she had not experienced many things that normal teenagers get to, he insisted on throwing together a proper sleepover when they were free. Now that they were free from the lab, she had been able to take it easy for the night at least. Woody had invited other kids and toys, making it a fun time. They did various things like painting nails, watching movies, snacking on popcorn, and playing board games. It was an experience that Mirai treasures.
That had become the calm before the storm for both Deerington and herself. Mirai had previously assumed her fatigue was simply Deerington messing with her. She was getting worse, but she didn't think to question it just yet. She was too busy dealing with the changes around the town. There were clear warning signs that Deerington was starting to fall apart. Between buildings collapsing, Wastes flickering out of existence, and dropping down into a desert, there was enough to keep her distracted.
Decent sleep had already been hard to get, but now it just seemed impossible. No matter how long Mirai slept for, nothing seemed like enough. Recovery slowed over time, and her self-healing seemed to take longer to kick in. Deerington had affected everyone's sense of self for a while now, so dazing off into space at random moments didn't seem troubling enough. Her body began to feel sore all of the time. Her magic had changed upon coming into Deerington. Regardless of the changes, her magic seemed much more likely to fail as time went by. It had become difficult to use it without expending more mana when needed.
Mirai was careful not to push herself too hard as her conditions got worse. Day by day, it became more dangerous to roam around the town on your own. Mirai was relieved when Usagi returned later. One thing that she had learned during her time here was good things don't last long here. When a fellow Sleeper organized a prom, she grew concerned about what would happen during it.
Had this been a few months prior, more excited to experience a formal dance, she would have planned to attend as a guest. Following suit of how these things usually go down, Mirai went to prom to help protect the others when things turn sour. She still dressed for the event but intentionally kept her heels low and her dress short. She thought about function and movement over appearance.
Prom went about as well as she could have assumed it would. It started innocent enough. While she probably could have enjoyed the calm before the storm, she spent most of her time there patrolling and keeping an eye on the situation. It came time to crown the king and queen. To nobody's surprise, the fun was over. It was time to fight. She spent most of her time trying to find a safe place to defend people when the past slighted prom candidate came back with a vengeance.
With her condition getting worse, her self-healing slowed down. Ordinarily, most of her injuries cure much faster than an average human. At some point while putting out fires, Varien burned his arm. Mirai -- being the way she is -- naturally went to heal his injury. The problem is that Deerington changes everyone's abilities, calling it Warping. Mirai's healing magic had Warped to take on any injuries that she healed. If the injury is much more severe, she only took half of the damage. With her self-healing in typical capacity, the burn would have healed within a day. Not convinced despite insisting that she would be fine, Varien immediately called her out.
Her health declined to the point that she could no longer keep how she was doing to herself. It's not too hard to pass of fatigue, and some of the other symptoms, off as simply Deerington messing with her. She convinced herself that was the case for so long. Deep down, she knew that there was something wrong with her internally by then. Despite trying her best to keep symptoms to herself, it all began too clear to hide; Even those who didn't know her that well could tell that she was not well.
Sleep has been a vital tool to recover mana. It had been months since Mirai began to have trouble sleeping. She had managed to get some decent sleep here and there, but she was finding it harder every day. Eventually, restful nights of sleep seemed impossible, causing multiple problems for her. Mana no longer regenerated, she was always tired, and her reaction time drastically slowed. She had only experienced the Death Flu once before, but it was reminiscent of the symptoms of Overdrive in many ways. It became a persistent feeling. Her magic had become weaker and unstable.
Mirai had become frail, and it showed. She could no longer pass these symptoms as Deerington's tricks. She started to realize that something was wrong with her and making a few connections that she hadn't before. Theories about her own homes' fate came to mind. If time was running out for her, she wanted to use whatever time was left to be helpful. What difference would it make if she pushed herself further if it would help save lives? If she was going to die, she might as well go down with a fight.
Even with her many challenges to overcome, she pushed on and admitted that she needed to find a safer place to stay. The Wastes -- the fake Wastes -- disappeared. The ground had dangerous cracks; businesses had collapsed the past few months. Traversing the town became a challenge, but the thick fog made everything worse. Mother Superior had become a real threat. If she wasn't someone to watch out for, there were plenty of monsters about that were vital to keeping an eye on.
Residents had started to stock food and safe havens in preparation for what was possibly coming. No one could have predicted what would happen, but few locations became "safe." What concerned her was that Deerington's state was very reminiscent of her home. She feared a repeat at this rate. She tried anything she could to change things, pushing herself harder.
Mako's home was a popular spot, and although she stayed a little while with him, Mirai decided that she didn't want to take any limited food from those who needed it. Not when she was in such a bad state already. She wanted everyone else to have plenty of food instead. After that, she spent the rest of her time with Sarona. After pushing herself hard enough, she became too frail to continue.
In Mirai's downtime, she came across many new things that she never had the chance to experience before due to the nature of her world. Although taking place at various times throughout her time at Deerington, she attended school for the first time in years. When Cadavers started to show up, it became dangerous to send kids to public schools. Many parents took it upon themselves to teach their kids in the safety of their own homes. Mirai had been home-schooled for a few years up until her parents passed away.
Taiyang told her about school dances while they were out shopping for new clothing. He had become a precious friend for the time that he was there. The Grady Hotel party was her first chance to experience this firsthand. David helped taught her how to dance briefly. Although the Murder Prom was another experience, it was not nearly as enjoyable. Although it was for a very brief time, Mirai experienced her first crush. It was a simple one-sided crush, but nice nonetheless.
Bella had been kind enough to help teach her how to make soup for Usagi, who was experiencing the Death Flu. After that, Mirai kept practicing in her own time to learn how to cook. Later after the Grady Hotel, Woody found out that she had no idea what it was like to be a teenager. She had no experience with going to the mall with friends or even going to sleepovers. Sleepovers were a thing that happened before things went to hell, but she had never really experienced it herself. Woody was determined to host a slumber party with other kids and the other toys.

CAMPAIGNER
The Campaigner personality is a true free spirit. They are often the life of the party, but unlike types in the Explorer Role group, Campaigners are less interested in the sheer excitement and pleasure of the moment than they are in enjoying the social and emotional connections they make with others. Charming, independent, energetic, and compassionate, the 7% of the population that they comprise can certainly be felt in any crowd.
ENFP-T
PERSONALITY
Mirai -- over all else -- is a small girl with a bright personality. She's usually full of energy and tries to think about the bright side of things over the negatives. Considering that hope is the fuel for her magic and her abilities, she tries her best not to let herself linger on the downsides too often. In many ways, it's too painful for her to think about all of the negative things. The one thing she wants is to bring happiness to those around her. She'll stop at nothing to make others feel better. It's easy to take away that she's selfless and compassionate. She would sooner put others before herself, no matter how bad off she was in any given circumstance. When you came from a world where death was commonplace, wanting others in her life was a constant desire. To that end, she will do anything she can to ensure that they're safe and in good spirits. As a result, she loves to make new friends and doesn't take long to warm up to someone. Although, she does come off as awkward at times due to the lack of socialization these days.
She's a very determined person in all aspects of life. When Melandrach was dying, she was more determined than ever to save her world and the people left in it. Once she puts her mind to something, she will do everything in her power to keep her word and carry out what she set out to do. Sometimes to a fault.
Her life up until falling in Denestvia was endless chaos and loss. She's witnessed the deaths of her family and friends over the years, causing quite a bit of anxiety on her part. Underneath that warm and bubbly personality of hers, deep down beyond her fake smiles, she's very lonely and is honestly afraid that she'll end up all alone to deal with everything by herself. In regards to Melandrach, that's a heavy burden to carry on her own. No doubt has affected her negatively, wearing her down.
It's also the cause of her stubbornness and her tendency to push herself too hard. She does know her limits, but just as selflessness can be a good thing, it could also be a bad thing. She thinks so little of herself to focus all of her attention to care about everyone else around her. To that end, she will willingly put herself in danger if it means it will save people that mean something to her.
It doesn't matter if you're already a friend of hers or a perfect stranger. If you're in danger and need help, she will be there to help out however she can. With her concern for other people's well-being over her own, any injury will worry her. Disregarding her own needs is just a product of her fear of loss. After seeing so many people die in her world, either between infighting or Cadavers, she'll do everything she can to prevent any further misfortunate.
It's more accurate to say that she's a ticking time bomb in every sense of the word. I mean that both mentally and physically. Even if it wasn't due to her tendency to push herself too hard for other people's safety, there's something internally wrong with her. Mentally speaking, the pain of loss is a good factor in how she acts, but that's not the only reason.
Hope is what fuels a Mahou. At any given moment, the moment that Mirai acknowledges that her world is gone or that there's nothing she can do, she's sure to crumble; No front will be able to save her from the fallout. That is also the reason why Mirai is so desperate to believe that everything will work out okay. The moment that she gives in to despair will be the moment that she'll finally break down.
There is one other thing that I will go into further detail in the Abilities section about, but I should mention here as well. Mirai has no control over her mana. Most Mahou has a Mana Drive that regulates how much mana they can use at any given moment. Unfortunately for Mirai, those born on Melandrach do not possess such a thing and constantly use mana daily, no matter how small the task is. The Mahou in Denestvia has this to regulate and can activate and de-activate their Mahou states at will.
What does this mean for Mirai? Simply put, Mirai is a powerful Mahou but has no any way to filter the energy used. Her magic comes at the cost of her life force, slowly killing her over time. Simply put, she is a ticking time bomb and will die younger than most people. She -- herself -- at this moment does not know about this fact yet. She's not even aware that you can de-active the Mahou state at all. It has just been so commonplace that she doesn't think anything is weird about it.
TERMINOLOGY
Cadavers/Nightmares | ✨ | Creatures that began showing up with the overuse of magic. These creatures take on many forms and started small and quickly grew in size. It didn't take too long for them to evolve and become even more resilient to traditional gunfire and other means of fighting. They require guns with magical attributes to properly fight back, but magic in the most basic form is clunky and hard to wield. Melandrach coined the term "Cadavers," while Denestvia referred to them as "Nightmares." Mirai has taken to "Nightmares" over "Cadavers" due to how much more fitting and simpler it was to say. She'll use both interchangeably depending on her time point, though. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Extradimensional Generators | ✨ | Generators invented in Denestvia with the intent to create and control portals to other alternative worlds for energy. These punctured holes into the sky to reach alternative worlds and use them as a renewable energy source. They are also the cause for the appearance of Cadavers/Nightmares on Denestvia. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Magi | ✨ | Anyone who studies and/or wields magic. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Magic | ✨ | Magic -- once discovered and studied by Magi -- started very basic and slowly got more advanced as time went by. It took about two months for Magi to cast the first spell after rediscovery. Although people have begun to figure out more complicated spells, it's not without costs. Magic takes an insane amount of focus and preparation to achieve the desired results, along with strange materials and sacrifices to efficiency. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Mahou | ✨ | A magical girl/boy with special abilities to fight Cadavers/Nightmares. Mahous can use magical powers as simply as a human can move and breathe. They don't need to go through the many steps and hassles that Magi has to take to achieve the same goal; It is more accurate to say that the magic they can produce is much more potent than any Magi would be able to use. Mahou are much more difficult to injure and endure most things that would kill a person. They can push their limits, but doing so can also cause Strain. The source of their power comes from hope. While that seems like a good thing, hope isn't always used with good intent. Generally, Mahou means the best when they work, but some are much more selfish with their desires. It was something that Mirai had seen plenty of back in Melandrach. The Mahou of Denestvia can transform and change back to normal when done with their task. This is also your traditional magical transformation, so intricate outfits are part of the process. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Mana | ✨ | Hope is converted to mana and essentially fuels a Mahou. It gives them the abilities and endurance to survive difficult situations. If used too much can put a Mahou in a very vulnerable state. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Mana Drive | ✨ | A Mana Drive is something that Mahou in Denestvia is born with to regulate and convert for magical use. It also keeps a Mahou from using too much mana past their intended use. Overuse causes strain to the Mahou and requires rest to re-cooperate. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Portals | ✨ | Rather than explain what portals are, it is more important to explain their purpose in the setting. In Denestvia -- much like Melandrach in its earlier stages -- there is an energy crisis going on. The heavy use of magic is taking a toll on the earth. The mega-corporations came up with a plan using portals to take energy from other dimensions and worlds. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Strain | ✨ | Strain is caused by the overuse of magic. There is a limit to how much a Mahou's body can physically stand. Using too much mana in a short amount of time causes fatigue and wariness. Recovery is simple. All a Mahou requires is rest. Once they get a sufficient amount, they'll be good to go again. Pushing Strain too much can result in Overdrive if one is not careful. ☆═━┈┈┈┈━═☆ |
Zen Dynamics | ✨ | A mega-corporation found in Denestvia that rose to the top. They overtook the government with their influence and magical studies. Using magic to win the war over power, resources to fuel magic research became scarce and soon took a toll on energy for Denestvia and the world. |
ABILITIES & SKILLS
INCREDIBLE POWER
Being born in Melandrach where Mana Drives do not exist, she has no filter to regulate just how much mana she can use. Having no limit to her mana usage can be a negative thing and is very easy to overdo. She has nothing keeping her from using her full potential. Her magic is very strong but comes at a hefty cost.
Simply put, her magic has more potency and power than an average Mahou from Denestvia. With it -- if not kept in check -- could cause more widespread destruction. Thankfully her abilities tend to be more on the supportive side, so the worst-case scenario would be that her nature-specified magic would cause more damage.
TICKING TIME BOMB
As noted above, she has no way to de-active her Mahou state and is constantly in it. Simple things don't cost much mana or strain her much, but there is no way to conserve energy and mana how a normal Mahou can. As a result, her life force is slowly being drained and will result in early death. Long story short, she's slowly dying because of this and is unaware of it herself at this time.
She had never thought to ask about it when her parents were still alive because this was commonplace back in Melandrach; Nobody questioned it. Any possible answers to this have vanished with the death of those who may have once known.
PHYSICAL STRAIN
Although this is not exactly an ability or skill, it is still incredibly important to mention and relevant. A Mahou theoretically has a limitless amount of mana so long as they stay driven in whatever gives them hope. Prolonged use of excessive mana will lead to Strain. You can heal physical wounds, but no amount of healing with recover the fatigue and discomfort caused by Strain. The only way to recover is to allow yourself to rest and not use any further magic.
Considering Mirai has no way to de-active her Mahou due to the lack of a Mana Drive, she'll never be able to completely stop the Strain. This may be a hurdle to overcome, but with proper rest, she can mostly recover. Over time fatigue will kick in, but that will take quite a bit of time unless she pushes herself too much at one moment.
ENHANCED STRENGTH & ENDURANCE
Mahous are given boosts allowing them more power and durability than an average human. They have the endurance to survive injuries that could kill most people and faster regeneration abilities. If a Mahou so wanted, they could probably blow up skyscrapers with their immense powers.
Mirai has no interest in using her abilities this way, but the added strength does have its perks from time to time. Because she would prefer to focus on supporting others between healing injuries and keeping them in tip-top shape, she does come off as weaker in terms of power than most Mahou. That suits her just fine because she's not interested in using her magic as a show of power.
NATURAL APTITUDE
Although most Mahou specializes in a few things that drive their desires, it is also possible to learn new abilities and become adept at them. She is not incapable of learning different spells or abilities. Much like an average human, she can only get better at new magic if she puts in the time and practice. It's one thing to learn a new trick, but it's another thing to use it well. To realistically use a new ability to its fullest potential, she has to practice it enough to master it.
ENERGY PROJECTION
If Mirai wanted, she could manifest her mana in a solid state. It's a focused ball of unstable magic that can become a weapon itself, but raw power like that is not advisable to attempt. It is extremely dangerous and takes way too much out of a Mahou to use that kind of force. It has incredible power to it, but it's not something the Mirai has ever cared for in the first place. It should only be seen as a very last-ditch effort when all else fails if there are no other options.
Mirai is not likely to use this tactic but is fully capable if she ever has to. If she ever has to resort to this trick, she's not likely to have the best control over it because she has not attempted to do so yet.
HEALING
What Mirai desires the most is to save her world and those around her. It isn't a surprise that one of her specialties is the ability to heal up any wounds and broken bones. She's also capable of faster recovery from injuries, but that's mostly tied to her being a Mahou. Her healing abilities are pretty impressive, but they do not extend to resurrection. Unfortunately, no matter how powerful she is, she cannot bring back the dead.
NATURE ELEMENT
Mirai also specializes in nature as an element. This draws on her desire to save her world. Her world has been barren of plant life and fauna for years. Although her spells are generally nature-based, the blight of Melandrach far exceeds what she can do. There is no way to renew the earth because the blight is much stronger and faster than she can undo. In a normal setting, she can still use nature as the basis of her spells. There are various ways as to how she could use this, although most defensive.
BARRIERS
She can create a barrier using sturdy vines that are not easily destroyed. It would take a lot to break through these vines. Powerful or not, she's not invincible. If she's in a weakened state, her barrier will still hold strong, but not for very long. At most, it would give her a chance to get away from danger and offer a distraction before it inevitably falls.
GROWTH
As I briefly stated in the Nature Element section, she's capable of regrowth of the land, and that in itself can be used in a variety of ways. For a time, she tried to help the earth rejuvenate itself to bring both plant and crop life to fruition, but the blight was much stronger than anything that she could manage.
In a setting outside of her homeworld, she is versatile in her magic that allows her to do several things. A few examples include speeding up a flower's process to blossom, summoning a massive amount of vines from the ground to create barriers (see above), or restraining one's moments. She can also undo the process (of her magic) if she needs to.
Transportation
I say transportation, but it's more like the ability to reach other locations. Mirai can use her natural affinity to reach certain areas that are generally not easily accessible. Whether it be lifting her to higher ground or using plant life to climb up hard-to-reach areas, it is a means of mobility.
OFFENSE
Although her primary focus is to support others, she can just as easily use her magic offensively if need be. Her vines are sharp enough that they could pierce through a person for the sole purpose of offense. With a combination of growth and an offensive stance, she could use this to her advantage to fight back.
OVERDRIVE
Mana Drives exist to regulate mana usage, but as we know now, Mirai does not have one. It is much easier for her to push herself so far that she goes into Overdrive.
Overdrive gives a burst of extra power that normally isn't as palpable, but it does cause more harm to the Mahou who uses it. This naturally goes hand in hand with Strain. Push Overdrive more than you should and a Mahou can suffer from long-term damage. It is possible to permanently burn out their use of magic or even kill them if they're not careful.
RELATIONSHIPS
☆═━┈┈ Canon ┈┈━═☆
Reverie Martel
Reverie was the first person that Mirai met when she -- literally -- fell into Denestvia. Although she's determined to find a way back home, she wants nothing more than to help him save his world from Nightmares. She's very fond of him because he's taken her in after finding out that she doesn't have anything to go back to. Given time, the likelihood to fall for Reverie is very realistic.
☆═━┈┈ Deerington ┈┈━═☆
Clarke Griffin
Mirai and Clarke talked about their worlds while taking shelter in the library during the October 2020 event. They seem to have both come from equally horrible worlds. In a way, it was a way to bond. Even if she hadn't spoken much with Clarke besides that yet, Mirai feels like they could become good friends.
Willow Rosenberg
Mirai was trying to help Willow when she first came here. She tried to help give her what information that she had. She mostly warned her about the dangers of Deerington. They haven't talked much past that yet.
Atsushi Nakajiima
Atsushi was offering people shortcake because he made extras. He was also asking about sinkholes. After she told him about the aquatic sinkhole, he offered to meet up with her at the sinkhole. He wanted to explore it, but she had also been aware of his intentions. She decided not to say anything about it but resolved to go along with him to protect him if it was necessary. They haven't spoken much past that.
Childe
The Sleepers of Deerington were stuck in the lab without their powers in February 2021. Mirai and Childe worked together to find a way out. Despite the seriousness of their situation, her first interaction with him was pleasant enough. He had introduced her to her first food fight while finding a way to create a distraction as they escaped through the kitchen vents. She would like to get to know him better when they aren't on the go.
Dipper Pines
Dipper and Mirai talked briefly about Dungeons, Dungeons & More during the October 2020 event. She mentally noted that he was injured, but it wasn't until after the event that she realized how serious it was. Dipper didn't want to talk about it. She didn't want to push it, so she left it be. She'd preferred to try and cheer him up over probing him about something that made him uncomfortable to talk about to subject. She's not sure if they could be considered friends or not yet, but she'd like to think of him as one. They danced a little bit at the party at the Grady Hotel.
Stanford Pines
Ford was talking about creating a compendium of Deerington happenings and creatures; Much like the books that he had written back in Gravity Falls. When asking for some assistance, Mirai was happy to help however way she could. During their conversation, he had warned her about her powers Warping here. Generally, those with healing magic saw their magic backfire. He warned her to be careful about using it too much.
Stanley Pines
Mirai met Stan in the library during the October 2020 event. He told her about a few stories from his home and the Jersey Devil. He may not be the best person (judging by what she knows so far), but his enthusiasm was nice to see. She would like to get to know him better in time and hear more of his stories.
Mako
Mirai had met several people here during her time, but Mako had quickly become one of the closest friends she here. Not just because she had spent enough time with him, but also because he's one of the only people who knew all about her world. She spoke about what she has had to deal with back home. As well as her insecurities and regrets thanks to various events and scenarios. He was also one of the few people who had noticed her worsening condition before it became evident. He chewed her out for not saying anything sooner out of concern. If she ever needed to talk to anybody, Mako was the first person she spoke to for advice or assistance. She appreciated him for being there for her when she needed someone. He was admittedly not the best at giving gentle advice, but he was also not afraid to be blunt when the situation called for it. As harsh as it came off at times, it was the kick in the ass she needed from time to time. She trusted him probably the most out of everyone here.
Martin Blackwood
Martin helped tend to some of her injuries during the October 2020 event. He was very comforting as he helped her out. She appreciated his help, even if they haven't been able to talk much yet aside from that.
Glitch
Glitch stopped Mirai from going outside during the October 2020 event. He seemed a bit unfriendly, but it called for it in that particular situation. He seemed a bit grumpy, but he seemed like he cared about people nonetheless. From the sound of it, he was also from a post-apocalyptic world. They explored the Titanic together for a brief time after their initial meeting. While it was raining bodies in March, she learned more about his world and their similarities. She offered other possible solutions that could help him save his world.
Sarona Gayle
When Sarona met Mirai, she hadn't been doing so well. She was under the effects of the town, talking hopelessly about her chances to save her home. Overall, it was the opposite of how she ordinarily was. Sarona took care of her, and the two of them became friends. Sarona kept an eye on Mirai -- much like a few others -- as her condition got worse. When it got too dangerous to go out and about all alone, Mirai stayed with Mako for a while. Shortly after, she took shelter with Sarona the rest of the time as Deerington started to degrade.
Luz Noceda
Mirai first met Luz at the Grady Hotel when the peephole showed memories from her past. Luz had been very comforting during a crippling moment for Mirai. She had managed to make a good friend despite the horrible experience. Luz was quick to notice her condition getting worse over time. She was also one of the first people to find out about her home. Luz kept a close eye on her, but stuck between wanting not to worry her friends and facing the truth of the situation, Mirai tried to conceal how she felt.
Raleigh Becket
Mirai and Raleigh only had a brief conversation about preventing death from happening due to the town's influence. With Deerington holding a lot of power over them, it seems unlikely.
Ren Amamiya
Mirai nearly ran into Ren in the streets after just arriving during the October 2020 event. Thankfully it was earlier in the event, so things weren't as crazy just yet aside from the lack of sleep. He was nice enough to give her some sticks of incense. Aside from that, she hasn't had many interactions with him just yet but would like to get to know him better.
Vira-Lorr
Mirai met Vira-Lorr when the Wastes were starting to show glitching in February 2021. She had been helpful with information. For as long as Mirai had been here, she didn't know much about the intricacies of Deerington. She'd spent most of her time here just trying to get by.Vira-Lorr told her about the authentic residents here. It was the first moment that she was able to learn what was important in Deerington. She had also helped her escape the lab. Thanks to Vira-Lorr, Mirai had been able to find the hairs needed to learn more about the residents in later events. Mirai has appreciated her guidance along the way.
Ruby Rose
Mirai learned about Ruby from Varian when talking with him. When Ruby mentioned making weapons, she also commented about her world briefly. Mirai was interested in hearing more about her and her world over time. She hasn't had much interaction with her yet. Ruby invited her to ride the giant Caterpillar with her during the March 2021 event. They talked a little about toys during the ride.
Winter Schnee
Mirai first met Winter during the Burning Festival (2021 Grady Hotel Event). A vendor had given her a spiked drink, unknown to Mirai. Winter kept an eye on her, making sure nothing unfavorable happened to her. After the event, she periodically spoke to Winter. Mirai thought that Winter was helpful and kind, even if she seemed a bit cold at times. She would love to get to know Winter better.
Minako Aino
Minako and Mirai have had a few conversations about love. She taught her all about mistletoes and talked about Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, neither of them has had anyone special in their lives yet. They don't know each other that well yet, but she enjoyed talking to Minako.
Usagi Tsukino
Mirai met Usagi during the October 2020 event when she passed out somewhere outside. With things as dangerous as they were, Mirai was concerned for her safety and helped her back to the library. She told Usagi a little about her world while at the library. After October was over, she found out that Usagi had killed a few people during the madness. She made guilt clear, making Mirai realize this town's effects on people occasionally. Mirai was concerned for her health and tried to make her soup. Usagi had been good to her, and she considered her one of her closest friends here. When Usagi went missing, Mirai searched everywhere for her. She was relieved to see she was okay later on.
Dean Winchester
Dean was being hunted by a giant spider in the woods when they met. Mirai tried to help him out. She's not good at ignoring anyone in trouble, despite getting over Overdrive. She was concerned for his well-being, but he seemed to be doing okay at the Grady Hotel in January 2021. At the end of February, both of them died to Jack. They were both trying to deal with what's happened and figure out what to do next.
Sam Winchester
Mirai didn't know much about Sam. The only thing she knew is that he was from Jack's world, and they seem close. He seemed pretty nice, if not a little unsure, but she would love to meet Jack's friends. They mentioned meeting Castiel. She was happy to meet him too sometime, but it never happened.Sam disappeared and showed up again in February or March but had no memories of her. She was a little disappointed but not deterred. They hadn't been able to talk much before this, so starting fresh was okay with her. He didn't remember knowing Jack, so he was from an earlier time than before.
Varian
Varian was doing some research while in the library during the October 2020 event. They talked about Deerington. Later on, they were talking about the Moss King and about how she reminded him of Rapunzel. He seemed to get into trouble on occasion, but she was determined to be there for him; Yet another hopelessly optimistic friend to add to his collection so far. As her conditions started to get worse, she had healed a burn he got during the Murder Prom, transferring it to her instead. She helped him put out fires and take people to safety. He noted a month later that it still hadn't healed completely, despite her confirmation that it would.
Buzz Lightyear
Mirai met Buzz while she attended the sleepover. They had a great night of much-deserved rest and fun. The two of them figured out how to use a microwave. She had even learned how to use her magic for silly things like popping popcorn kernels. She would love to get to know him and all of the other toys better.
Woody
Woody helped her find her room at the Grady Hotel; although they spent more time hunting it down. She got to know him a little during that time. She told him that she mostly kept to herself and how she didn't have anyone in her life anymore. Woody went dad mode after realizing she didn't have any good childhood memories. Once he found out that she didn't know what a sleepover was, he insisted on putting one on. Mirai had a great time there with Woody, the other toys, and other people invited to join them. She would love to know more about Woody and spend more time together.
Bella Swan
Bella helped Mirai learn how to cook soup so that she could bring some for Usagi. She was a lot of help, and Mirai appreciated her assistance. She talked a little about wanting to be helpful with her while cooking, but they don't know much about each other just yet.
Lan Wangji
Mirai found out that Wei Wuxian and he was getting married soon. It was the first time she had met him, but she was very excited and happy for them. She wanted to try to help out as much as she can. They haven't spoken much yet past that, but he seemed like a nice, quiet guy.
Wei Wuxian
Mirai attended Wei Wuxian's funeral during the 2021 Grady Hotel event. She had never met him before this day (past name mention), but she felt that he deserved respect; She had to deal with more death than she would like to admit. They had a satisfying heart to heart. After talking about his regrets, she had been able to help him fade back into existence. She would love to talk again sometime.
Takashi Shirogane
Mirai met Shiro while exploring the aquatic sinkhole. They were having fun swimming around but started to talk a little about the sinkhole. They spoke about moments of reprieve being sparse here but haven't spoken much yet.
David Allene
Mirai and David kept running into each other at events. He taught her how to dance during the Grady Hotel parties. She joked that he could be her date for the Murder Prom but hit a nerve and apologized. She had never intended on making him uncomfortable. She has enjoyed talking with him nonetheless.
☆═━┈┈ Deerington (Dropped) ┈┈━═☆
Sakura Kinomoto
Mirai first met Sakura when the October 2020 event was going on, making it difficult to sleep. Sakura was running herself ragged to allow a little bit of time for the others to catch some shut-eye. Mirai suggested that she needed to get some rest herself. She was very concerned for the girl but admired her from what little she knew of her so far. They talked a little while at the party in the Grady Hotel while stuck inside to catch up a little, talking about not having too many chances to dress up very often. The two of them mentioned learning how to sew together sometime, but it never happened.
Joel Miller
Mirai has only briefly spoken to Joel. They talked about infected, but they haven't had enough interactions to gauge anything. They were simply acquaintances. Mirai was worried that she had offended him after trying to healing him at the Grady Hotel. She hoped that she hasn't made him mad but hadn't spoken to him since.
Yuichiro Hyakuya
When Mirai arrived during the October 2020 event, she took shelter in the library with the others. She noticed Yuu was crying and wanted to cheer him up if she could. He also mentioned it was his birthday, so she tried to talk about that to help keep his mind off whatever was bothering him. He had since left Deerington, so she didn't know much about him.
Madoka Kaname
Mirai first met Madoka when she had just arrived in Deerington. The town's infrastructure changed, and it was perpetually dark and dangerous. They happened to run into each other before things got more chaotic. She found out that Madoka was also a magical girl, making them fast friends. She just wanted to be there for her as much as she can.The two of them became housemates after Madoka found out that she was living on her own after Homura disappeared. Mirai was worried that she caused the people she lived with trouble due to her past. Her hear aside, she was happy to have Madoka for company.
In January, Madoka went missing, but Mirai didn't know until the start of February. She had been in the Grady Hotel throughout January. Mirai missed her a lot once she left. With a few factors coming into play, she assumed Madoka's disappearance had something to do with the "curse" of living with her. Ever since then, she had lived on her own. She hoped that Madoka was doing okay back where she was from and could see her family again.
Taiyang Xiao Long
Taiyang came after the October events and was exploring. They were talking about clothing, and after some pleasant talk, they went shopping together. Mirai enjoyed his company, finding his presence comforting. The two of them had some delightful CR, but he returned home.
Jack Kline
Mirai met Jack in Jurassic Park when the sinkholes showed up in November 2020. They were running from a T-Rex to get out of danger and helped each other out. He tried to have her go ahead, but she had seen enough people die around her that she refused to leave anyone behind, no matter what. After the shenanigans, she met up with Jack and Sam at the Mart. After a brief, pleasant conversation, they offered to have her come by for dinner sometime. She enjoyed Jack's company and wanted to get to know him better.Near the end of February 2021, she died to him while he thought that he was Lucifer. She was still concerned for him but a little hesitant to approach him again in March. She didn't know if he was still afflicted by whatever Deerington did to him or why he did it. She was worried about him but didn't have the strength to fight back again if he was still under Deerington's effects. He went missing ever since, presumably woken up back home.
Louis
Louise kept her from going out to the pile of bodies during the October 2020 event. She was distraught, thinking that her family was crying out for help. He informed her that Deerington messes with people's minds like this often. After calming her down, he warned her about some of the other things that she could expect to happen here. They met under unfortunate circumstances, but she would have liked to talk to him more.
Xue Yang
Mirai and Xue spoke about the eyes where the moon should be during the October 2020 event. They also talked about the whispering briefly. Mirai helped heal up some of his wounds, causing her to take some of them on.
WORLD SETTING
☆═━┈┈ Melandrach ┈┈━═☆
The dependence on magic became commonplace. Modern-day technology wasn't that prevalent because of the existence of Mahous and magic. Soon enough unusual occurrences started to happen around them. It all started innocently. Plantlife began to die and the earth appeared to stunt any future growth. It seemed strange, but nobody thought much about it at the time. Farmers began to realize as time passed by without much change that crops were not growing and what was still alive was not good to eat. Panic started to settle in the wake of the beginning of a food shortage.
There had always been dangerous fauna in some locations, but strange creatures began popping up. They seemed harmless enough, only half the size of an average adult. They looked docile and although people questioned where they came from or what they were, scientists were more interested in the idea of finding a new kind of species they hadn't seen before. Left alone without constant surveillance these beings grew increasingly fast. People began to worry about these creatures, but scientists were much more interested in their evolutionary powers to think much of it. It wasn't until these creatures began to attack that people took the threat seriously.
With these creatures turning hostile, they began devouring anyone and everyone around them, causing the citizens to start panicking. With the ongoing crisis of food shortage, this was the last thing that Melandrach needed. Mahou -- who had previously taken up your average jobs -- abandoned their posts to defend those who were in danger due to these creatures. Magic use became much more rampant while trying to fight these creatures. Scientists began to call these creatures "Cadavers".
Melandrach was dying slowly around them between the earth's rotting and Cadavers attacking indiscriminately. Eventually, it accelerated at an alarming speed. Mahou did their best to try to work together and think of possible solutions for addressing their situation. Those who were not blessed with magical abilities had to put their faith in the Mahou around them that could protect them.
"No matter how bleak this situation appears to be, I will never give up on my home."
While most of them did their best to help however they can (whether it be between reviving the land or fighting Cadavers), there was a decent amount of Mahous who decided that they would take this opportunity to show that their worth and fight for power. With enough friction, it began to put those who wanted to use the situation for their gain and those who wanted to help protect innocent lives in a sort of power struggle among themselves. Those caught in the crossfire were either forced to try to stay alive or fight each other for power or just survival.Eventually, too much magic use began to unravel the world around them far more than before. Unfortunately for the residents of Melandrach, no one had linked the use of magic and Mahou to the developments around them until it was too late. It soon took a heavy toll on the world as a whole until there wasn't much left to protect. The situation became bleak of any hope that they would come out of this alive. Hope was a major source of power for Mahou, so those who weren't killing each other also found themselves failing in health due to morales declining. Those who didn't hold on to whatever hope they had left for safety found themselves fading. Soon enough, the world became empty and void of any life aside from the few who had survived. By then, those who survived had become hardened and unwilling to trust anyone.
☆═━┈┈ Denestvia ┈┈━═☆
The Denestvian people rediscovered magic from thousands of years when it had been prominent back then. The mega-corporations began to pour money into researching it, leaving it to Magi to learn how to harness this hidden power. It worked for a while and soon enough people were able to do some incredible things; One such example was powering electronics around them. The problem is that magic is clunky and for most people, it requires a lot of concentration, ingredients, sacrifices, and magical incantations to achieve even simple magic. The amount of prep work required was enormous and took quite a bit of time. With war ravaging the land and magic coming into play, Zen Dynamics began to use this to their advantage to come out the victors, effectively taking over the government and seizing control. After their battle for supremacy, it became very apparent that it took a heavy toll on the resources and the energy necessary to continue their research. Nobody seemed to think of the toll it had on their land. That's when the crazy plan to use Extradimensional Generators to harness the energy that they needed. There had been theories in Denestvia that other worlds existed, but it wasn't a theory that most took to. Not at first anyway. That's when the first Mahou showed up in Denestvia. Although the existence of Mahou has been commonplace in Melandrach, that's not the case for Denestvia. The two worlds do have their similarities. No one is exactly sure where the powers originated. Even Mirai has no idea where they came from because she was born with her abilities. By the time she'd even consider asking where they derived from, Melandrach had already been destroyed. Had she thought to ask while she was still young, she might have been able to do something more about this phenomenon.
Because Mahous are in popular demand in Denestvia, climbing up the ropes is easy. If they chose to work for any of the mega-corporations, they found climbing for power and profit was easy. Much like back in Melandrach, some Mahou chose to either fight the system, work with them, or do their own thing entirely.
